WEEK 1 - TERM 2 2016 - WELCOME BACK TO TERM 2

Welcome back to Term 2
Room 6 have quickly got back into the routine of school
and we have had a fantastic first week.

Maths
Many of the groups are learning how to skip count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Some groups are skip counting up to 20
Some groups are skip counting up to 100 or more.
Some groups are learning to skip count backwards in 2s.


Writing
The children have individual goals that they focus on for writing.
This week we wrote some stories about the school holidays.
It was great having the "Top 10 things I did in the holidays"
 as it helped the children remember their holiday adventures.


Reading
This term we are working together with Room 7 in our reading programme.
All the children are focusing on
"Getting ready for our guided reading lesson with the teacher."
Ask you child what this means?



Inquiry
This term we are learning about 
The Material World - Heating and Cooling


We have talked about:
What does heating and cooling mean?
What is matter?
We brainstormed different matter and 
then talked about how matter can be a SOLID, LIQUID or GAS.

Physical Education (PE)
We have been practising for the cross country.

This is next week on Thursday at 2pm.
Each fortnight we meet with Arne from the Belfast Community for PE sessions.
We are also learning about Big Ball Skills.

Wednesday afternoon - Performing Arts with Room 7
Drama
On Wednesday afternoon we joined with Room 7 and learnt about FREEZE FRAME in Drama

Discovery
On Friday our focus was on NZ Sign Language.
Ask your child to sign their name.
Next week is NZ Sign Language week.
